Alternate Address

The search for a place to belong distinguishes many of the greatest works of art. It is only natural that in a world so vast, we are equally overwhelmed by choice as we are stranded in our loneliness, turning this search lifelong. And for those of us who have only begun to set eyes on their uncertain future, the looking seems endless and fraught with the possibility: but what if I don’t really belong anywhere?

So where do we find our belonging, and where should we look? In Alternate Address, columnist Aanji Sin deliberates this question and its many definitions. As she examines the different spaces in which people find where they belong—art, cities, histories, URLs, people—she continues her own search for belonging and turns to the poets for their insight.
