Submit to Sontag Mag
Sontag Mag is a literary magazine appearing triannually and devoted to fostering a community of poets and translators and promoting works exceptional in craft.
We accept submissions of poetry and poetry-in-translation in January, May, and September, and new volumes are published in April, August, and December. We do not accept pitches for interviews or essays on craft. Submissions are accepted via email to submissions@sontagmag.com, and those submissions that do not follow the submission guidelines will be rendered unread.
All submissions must be previously unpublished, online and in print. We do not accept translations of poetry that have previously appeared online or in print in English or works whose creations are attributed to or aided by artificial intelligence (AI). Works of poetry and poetry-in-translation should be sent in a file with the following subject line: “Name—Number of Poems” (e.g., “John Doe—2 Poems”) with a brief third-person bio and each poem beginning on a new page.
Translations of poetry must include a copy of the original poem. Translators must have obtained permission from the work’s original author before submission except in cases where the work is in the public domain, as in copyright expiration.
Sontag Mag considers no more than three poems at a time, and we ask that you submit no more than once per submission period. If you’ve published with us before, please wait a minimum of 90 days after your publication date to submit to us again.
We aim to respond to all submissions within three months of receipt.
Though we cannot offer monetary compensation at this time, work published in Sontag Mag forms a part of our permanent archive. We nominate for Best New Poets, the Pushcart Prize, Best of the Net, Best Spiritual Literature, and Best Literary Translations.
Sontag Mag asks for First North American Publishing and Archival Rights. All rights revert back to the author upon publication.
Sontag Mag is listed in Chill Subs, Poets & Writers, Duotrope, and the CLMP.
