Humboldt Park
. . . past a row of orange ice fish tents,
the Retriever sprints across the field, clutching
the ball in its jaw,
not harsh to look at. to stare into
the sun on the horizon line
. . . through an opening in the trees,
the faint star struggles to show
like a changed lightbulb
in the violet sky, another
gets brighter
. . . the eyes covet, lock onto
the liquid sapphire blue
of the lagoon, existing
with bronze, silver, & gold—
lamp posts brighter than the moon
